Using The Amber Alert Child Locator While On Camping Trips

Many families enjoy spending time outside together on camping trips and there is no better way to get away from it all and experience quality time that is hard to come by these days. But for some families this fun trip can sometimes turn into scary events that do not always end well. It can be so easy for a child of any age to wander off from camp and get lost in the woods where finding them can be difficult. To make matters worse local search and rescue teams do take time to get organized and this can potentially place the child exposed to overnight conditions.

Families that use a Amber Alert GPS child locator device in their daily lives will find that this unit despite being designed for suburban use will many times work in rural areas as well. For many users they will discover that if there cell phone will work where they choose to camp then they can access the coordinates of the tracking device to find a lost child quickly.

Though not a guarantee, depending on where the family is camping, this GPS tracking unit can potentially help parents find a child that has wandered off from camp quickly to prevent them from spending a cold night outside. If the child has gotten hurt while they were lost it can also help them get the medical attention they truly need faster in order to take care of them the best.

While not a substitute for staying together in the first place or even for a well trained search and rescue team, this GPS tracking device can help get kids home faster and keep them safe both at home and when away with the family.

Tragic News With GPS in the Headlines!

I read a very tragic story today on cnn.com about a precious little 7th grade girl in Washington state who was brutally murdered by a registered sex offender. One of the things that really bugged me about this is that the sex offender was being monitored with a GPS tracking device, but no one was watching him at the time of the crime.

Here is a link to the story:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/03/12/sex.offender.gps/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

I truly wish that the little girl had a GPS unit on her instead! Surely her parents would have been far more vigilant of their daughter than the department of corrections is of their parolees. Her parents, who warned their daughter against going through the rough part of town where she was murdered, could have been spared this heartache by the “safe zone” feature of the Amber Alert GPS child locator device because the minute she crossed over into the forbidden area, her parents would have received an alert about her being in forbidden territory and they could have retrieved her immediately.

What an absolute heartbreak! I have small children and the thought of them being attacked when it could have been prevented makes me so sad. The world is becoming an increasingly dangerous and untrustworthy place. We must do all we can with the available technology to keep our families safe.

Our main focus as a company is child safety and parent’s peace of mind.  Our main product is actually an award-winning product called  the Amber Alert GPS child tracking unit that we have created for parents to track their children no matter where they may be.

Well, what I am so excited about is that we have our new, smaller 2G unit being produced as I write and it will be out to the public Amber Alert GPS 2G child tracking devicein April. Our original product has been sold out for quite some time now and we have been working on this new unit for months. There is nothing like it out in the marketplace. Amber Alert GPS featured on MSNBC.com!

Amber Alert GPS was featured yet again in a national publication. Yesterday msnbc.com had an article in their Technology & Science section on the subject of “A good find: GPS to locate the kids -Programs offer a useful tool, but are not a panacea for parents.”

The article goes into some detail of the importance of a tracking technology to keep your kids safe. Amber Alert GPS is covered on the second page. This topic certainly is gaining some momentum on the national level…and with the increased number of reasons to fear in our society, gps tracking technology is almost a “must-have”. Not just for abductions, but for the common everyday occurences where kids go where they weren’t supposed to go, or leave without telling the folks, or just getting lost in a busy mall or amusement park. The technology is important…and I am speaking as a mother here, not as a rep for Amber Alert GPS!

Here is a link to the article for those who are interested in reading:

If you have any stories regarding the permanment or temporary loss of a child, we would be very interested to hear it. Feel free to add a comment to this or any other blog entry on this site. There are lessons to be learned, and trouble to be prevented, from other’s experience.

An Interesting Child Safety Tip

This is an interesting experience of a friend of mine that she shared with me from her blog. I thought it was pertinent enough to include on our blog:

“So about a week ago, I had a dream that really really freaked me out.  I couldn’t get it out of my head.  Turns out, it was pretty darned accurate.

In my dream, my 4 year old daughter was ignoring instructions to walk with me, and not run off… and she kept getting further and further in the crowded public place.  I warned her, and she ignored again.  So I sternly called her by her full name and warned her to get back to me.  She obeyed, as she usually does when I use her full name.

But a stranger had heard me use her name.  And they happened to be a child abductor with some skills.  They used HER name to look up on geneological record websites that store all public birth information.  Through that, they saw MY name, and my husband’s name.  Finding our names made it easy for them to locate us through other public records- even though we’re not listed in the phonebooks.

And because they found public records with my name, they basically found out where I lived, without really having to “follow me” and risk being seen in the area prior to a crime they were about to commit.  (Kidnapping my daughter.)

**This is where I woke up.  Totally freaked out as I always am since the instance of Elizabeth Smart 5 or 6 years ago.  I lived in the Salt Lake area that same time, and have always been afraid of something so violating and painful happening to my family too.

But I got on the internet to see how true this dream really could have been- and it took me only 5 minutes to find myself based on the details of my dream.

So the moral of my blog?  Don’t use your child’s full name in public EVER when you are disciplining them or calling out to them.  You are practically shouting your address and telephone number, no matter how private you think you live, and you don’t even know it.

So am I just a little clairvoyant?  Or criminally minded?  You be the judge.  Just don’t use your chlid’s full name in public.  Ever. Ever. Ever. ”

Kinda scary, eh? Something to think about when in public with your kids…it applies to your child AND you.

Amber Alert GPS working towards FCC approval!

We are so excited at Amber Alert GPS.com because our gps unit is very close to being ready to apply for FCC approval. Though it is not required for sales to folks like you and I, it makes us feel better knowing that it is approved by a government agency. It just further validates what we are doing and lends confidence to our users. This is not some cheap, fly-by-night outfit that is just selling gps units to make a few bucks. Heck no. We are all parents of children and have a vested interest in the safety of them. This translates into fanatical principles of the company who want to have the best for their children. This translates into a bettre, more effective product for you and your children.

We will keep you posted as to the updates of the application and approval process. We are tentatively shooting for July, 2008 for approval. Many of the existing components of the unit are FCC approved, but it is now time to have the whole unit approved as a final product.
