Finding it hard to keep your child entertained this winter?

As temperatures stay below freezing across much of the nation, children may be getting restless and bored while spending all this time indoors. Since it has been so cold, some parents feel more comfortable keeping their kids inside to play, while others want to take on the challenge and head outside to sled, snowboard and ski. Have no fear! Amber Alert GPS is here with some enjoyable suggestions for activities with your children, both indoor and outdoor!

For the Homebodies: While staying indoors in the winter sometimes you have to create your own fun. Why not try a fun new app offered on iPhone and Android? One we recommend is called ‘Heads Up!’ by Ellen DeGeneres. It’s similar to charades and your kids have to guess the person, place, or thing on the screen. Another great suggestion is having family game night.  Introduce your kids to a retro game that you used to play like Sorry, UNO, Clue or Battleship.  This really keeps the family connected and creates fun memories. It also teaches them to be strategic and quick thinking.

For the Risk Takers: Bundle up, brave the weather is you dare and go outside and play in the snow! Sled on a nearby hill, build a snowman, have a snowball fight, or build an igloo. The good news is that most of this can all take place in your own your backyard. Help your kids be creative and utilize items they see outside.  Have them play tic-tac-toe with branches and pinecones or put water in a spray bottle with food coloring and watch your kids make masterpieces in the snow! Use some buckets and cups to make a snow castle, the possibilities are endless! Don’t forget, if your child is going outside to play, make sure they are dressed appropriately and have their Amber Alert GPS with them at all times so you know their whereabouts! Be safe and have some fun
