Device FAQ
General
What is an AAPGS Device?
The AAGPS Device uses GPS (Global Positioning System) and cell ID technology to position the device. It also uses the wireless GSM network to transmit those positions to a web-based portal to view those positions.
Will AAGPS Device work anywhere?
The AAGPS Device is dependent upon 2 technologies – GPS (Global Positioning System) and wireless communications or cell phone (GSM). Anywhere you can receive both a GPS signal and have cell phone reception, the device will work.
Does the AAGPS Device work the same in all locations?
No. The AAGPS Device works best in suburban areas such as neighborhoods, houses, schools, parks, and flatter regions. It can receive a GPS signal better in those areas because it has less obstruction to the GPS signal. The more line-of-sight the GPS has to the satellites the more accurate the position will be. The AAGPS Device will work on a limited basis in cities where there are many high rise buildings because the buildings decrease the access to the GPS signal. Tall buildings can block the line-of-sight from the device to the satellite which creates multipath and error in positioning.
Can anyone track my AAGPS Device?
No. When you register your AAGPS Device on our tracking portal, you will be able to list the 10 trusted individuals that you want to receive alerts. You can also designate how you want them to receive the alerts, either via email (free service) or text alerts (paid service). You can change or edit these names at any time as needed. If you want them to track your device, they would need your log in and password and initiate the log in through a computer of App. You control who has permission to view your site and those being monitored.
What is the difference between an AAGPS Device and a Smartphone?
Smartphone are designed for spoken communication with positioning as a convenience. The AAGPS Device’s primary purpose is to monitor its position, accurately and reliably.

Technical
How can AAGPS track indoor? Don’t all GPS devices need a straight line of sight to the sky?
The AAGPS Device is using real time tracking. This means that the device is constantly receiving and recording the latest location on the device. When the device goes inside a building, the unit will retrieve the latest location information from the device. If the device is close to a window within a building, it will get a GPS signal.
What is the difference between GPS & E911?
E911 is a technology that uses cell towers to locate. If you’re trying to locate your child, the device will send out a signal to the cell towers. The 3 nearest cell towers triangulate to a calculated position. It is not very accurate. It is an approximate location. Cell phone companies use this technology for their GPS tracking. The location often changes within seconds. The best way to get accurate information is to use GPS. Using a combination of GPS and EP11 is the best approach to positioning an individual in the market today.
How long does the battery last?
Under normal use, the battery lasts about 48 hours Please note that different environments can affect the battery. For example, if the device is in a school that has been designated as a bomb shelter, then the school will have very limited cell (GSM) coverage. This will require the device to work harder to obtain a signal which could result in poor battery life.
How many tracks can I get on a full charge?
The device is reporting a location to the web portal every 5 minutes. When the device is not moving then it will go to sleep. You should be able to get 48+ hours of service at this rate.
If I can receive alerts by emails do I need to have a text messaging plan to use this product?
No, but we highly recommend using a Smartphone with our APP and having your emails sent directly to your phone. If you are away from your computer at a mall, park, or any other location and your child goes missing, you would want to be able to receive alerts and track from your cell phone. This feature is what makes the AAGPS Device unique – you can be mobile. Of course you can do all tracking from your computer if that is more convenient and affordable.

The AAGPS Device zone is set in increments of feet or meters. We recommend that you do not set the zone for less than 1000 feet. This helps prevent false alerts.

What if I just want to listen in to the surroundings of my child w/o talking?
This is very easy to do. You simply call the device’s phone number. The device doesn’t ring or beep. The device automatically picks up after 2 rings. Unless you begin to speak, the child will not know that a call has been placed and picked up. If you don’t want to be heard, simply put your phone on mute. Please know that there is an additional cost associated with voice use.
